Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a regenerative medical technique that works with the body’s natural processes to effectively promote skin and hair recovery.
The treatment is commonly used to target skin rejuvenation, scar tissue and stretch mark reduction. Our Phlebotomy trained practitioner works to the highest health and safety standards in our clinical setting, and is here to make you feel comfortable and answer any questions you may have about the treatment. How Does PRP Therapy Work?
PRP therapy works in alignment with the high concentration of platelets found in blood, which are rich in growth factors and bioactive proteins that play a crucial role in the body’s healing response.
The procedure involves a small amount of blood being extracted (usually from the arm) which is then placed into a centrifuge, this separates the plasma from the blood. Plasma is a component found in the blood that contains proteins and supports cell growth.
Platelet-Rich plasma is injected into the tissues of the skin which triggers the production of new, healthy cells and promotes healing. As the tissue growth factors are concentrated in the PRP injections, it stimulates the body’s tissues to heal faster, increases blood vessel growth and strengthens collagen, promoting a refreshed and youthful appearance and also aids hair follicle growth.
In essence, PRP therapy utilises the body’s own healing potential by concentrating and delivering platelets and growth factors to the targeted area, aiding in the recovery process.
What Can PRP Therapy Treat?
PRP Therapy is used to target skin rejuvenation, scar tissue reduction, and stretch mark reduction. It also promotes hair growth post-hair transplant and for alopecia or thinning of the hair by stimulating the body’s natural healing ability.
What To Expect
Collection
A small amount of blood is taken from an accessible area, usually the arm, similar to a regular blood test. It’s stored in a special vial ready to separate the elements.
Centrifugation
The sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate the blood into 3 separate layers, with platelets being collected and concentrated.
PRP Rich Plasma
The Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is now extracted from the centre of the blood sample. This plasma is the key ingredient used in the growth therapy.
Application
The concentrated PRP is then injected or applied directly to the site of treatment. The growth factors and other healing compounds in the PRP help stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, promoting tissue repair.
